To our Sponsors,
Happy New Year! We hope that you all enjoyed a wonderful holiday season and that 2009 has been good so far!
It may be a quiet time of year for us, riding-wise – we’re all plugging away at lots of base-mile training rides in preparation for the McDonald’s Kentuckiana Spring Classic Series of races that begins in March - and on the days that it isn’t too cold, or that another session indoors on a trainer is unfathomable, I bet you’ll see some hearty folks in blue out there riding! However, behind the scenes, it is anything but quiet! There are lots of exciting things in the works. Several members of BikeClicks/Team Louisville have been hard at work garnering more press for the team and the website as well as attending meetings to finalize plans for the upcoming spring and summer road seasons.
SPRING SERIES
BikeClicks.com is proud to announce that all information regarding the McDonald’s Kentuckiana Spring Classic Series will be hosted on BikeClicks.com. There will be a forum for both the spring series and the entire road racing series. Each individual race will also have its’ own page on the site where users can access information and registration about each event. This new format will increase BikeClicks’ reach to eastern Kentucky & Northern Indiana - membership will continue to grow and your ads will continue to reach a wider audience! It also appears that one of our team sponsors, Apex Therapy, will step up and support the Spring Series title sponsor - McDonald’s, as a presenting sponsor. Thank you, Apex Therapy!
BikeClicks/TeamLouisville will be putting on both the season opener on March 14th and the season finale of the Spring Series. The finale will be at Norton Commons on May 17th. Last year was the first year at Norton Commons & it is a fantastic family friendly venue for a bike race, with a very European village feel! Truth be told, I’ve never been to Europe to watch a bike race, but sitting in the restaurant watching one of the races go by the big window as I enjoyed a post race beer felt just about perfect! New this year will be an all day festival that coincides with the race. This will be a great opportunity for our sponsors to directly connect with the community. If you’d like to find out more about how you can participate in this event, please contact Darrell Edwards: darrelledwards@bellsouth.net.
SAFE RIDES
In the coming days, BikeClicks will also be announcing the release of Safe Rides; a program that allows cyclists to log any unfortunate encounters or accidents involving angry motorists or near misses into a database on the site which can then serve as a visual presentation of danger zones in the city. Steven Webster writes a blog on BikeClicks and has posted a video of the BETA version – feel free to get a sneak peek here. Already garnering interest from Metro, Safe Rides will be presented by Steven Webster at the upcoming Bike Summit II on February 12th. The Bike Summit is free and open to the public - more information on the Bike Summit II can be found here.
MEDIA COVERAGE
The sponsorship model of BikeClicks/Team Louisville was featured in last weeks’ edition of Business First. Also, keep an eye out for an article in next months’ issue of Today’s Woman in which I talk a little bit about women’s cycling & the team. FOX41 has also contacted the team about doing a segment on the popular roller races; stay tuned for more info!
In the meantime, lots of exciting things happening – as always, I’ll do my best to keep you all in the loop!
